This is the course plan used by University West.

Course objectives

On completion of the course, the student must be able to demonstrate

Knowledge and understanding of:

  • the history and development of the subject of informatics
  • ideas and theories that have influenced the development of the subject of informatics


Skills and abilities to:

  • identify in a given text the theoretical and methodological approaches and associated ideas lying behind it


Judgement and approach to:

  • Examining in a critical way and assessing the theories used in literature from a work, organisational and social perspective


Course contents

The course contains an overview of the development of the subject of informatics from its beginnings to the present time. The course looks at the paradigm shift and ideas that have influenced and shaped the subject. Fundamental theories and prominent theorists who have had a particularly strong influence in this field of research are also studied.
